John Dünser (Rupert) started his career in the meat processing industry at the age of 17 when he joined Freddy Hirsch & Co in Cape Town. In the 1960’s he was appointed as Managing Director. After 27 years of servicing the industry, he resigned from his position at Freddy Hirsch & Co in the early 1980s and relocated to his homeland, Austria, together with his family. But South Africa and its people had crept into his heart, and he returned to the country that he loved. He joined BT Enterprises and continued to service the industry that he was so passionate about.

Spice Of Life arose from very humble beginnings in the 1980s, when John’s wife Pam, had the idea to supply spices direct to the public on a ‘party plan’ basis. Within a few years, the business expanded, and we started supplying spices and Zico spares to the food processing industry.

In 2018 John, together with the family, re-registered the business as a Proprietary Limited company under the name of Spice Of Life Group (Pty) Ltd.

Today, his eldest daughter, Deborah Dünser and her son, Stephen Dünser are the directors of Spice Of Life Group (Pty) Ltd. They have partnered with Zico Zimmermann in Germany, who had a long association with her father, and their purpose is to supply top quality processing spares, together with a large range of quality natural herbs and spices, to the food processing industry, at affordable prices.
